The land of Egypt borders the Mediterranean Sea, between Libya and the Gaza Strip, and the Red Sea north of Sudan, including the Asian Sinai Peninsula. |
| Flag: |
Red white and black are the Arab liberation colours. The flag was used in 1952 by the liberation movement that deposed the King of Egypt. When the Federation of Arab Republics was formed in 1972, the Hawk of Quraish replaced the two green stars. In 1984 the flag reverted to that of the 1952 Liberation Struggle. On the white band is a styilized gold eagle, wings spread with its wingtips down.
