Kauai, part of Hawaii State, is the oldest of all the islands of the Hawaiian group.

Settled about 600AD by Polynesians who migrated from the Marquesas Islands (now part of French Polynesia). In the second wave of Tahitian immigration to Kaua'i about 1200AD, a chief named Moikeha landed at Wailua and was well received at the royal court. He eventually became the ali'lnui of Kaua'i. Moikeha was instumental in the future development of Kaua'i and also introduced taro, sweet potato and the sharkskin drum essential for hula temples and is still in use today.
