This map shows the rapid rise of Japanese conquests of countries of the Pacific, also shows Japan's equally rapid collapse.
Although the flags show only the UK and the US flags, there were many countries that contributed men and matériel to the war with Japan.
As well as local forces there were: Chinese, Russians, Australians, New Zealanders, French and Dutch. All made a great contribution.
