Official Name : AL-JUMHOURIYA AL-LUBNANIYA (Republic of Lebanon)
Land Area: 10,400 square kilometres.
Population:

4.1 million (2011 estimate).

Languages: Arabic and French (both official), English, Armenian.
Religions: Muslim 75%, Christian 25%.
Capital: Beirut (Bayrut). Population 1.9 million (2009)
Currency: Lebanese lira (called the pound) is divided into 100 piastres.
Independant: January 1 1944, (nominally) from France.
Geography: The land rises from the narrow coastal plain eastwards to form the Mt Lebanon Range, that stretches to over 30% of the area of Lebanon. Between the eastern slopes of this principle range and the Anti Lebanon, lies the fertile Beqaa Valley (in fact a plateau of average elevation of 1000m). 21% of the land is arable, a futher 8% is forested.

Three horizontal bands of red at the top, white at the middle, and red (bottom) with a green cedar tree centered in the white band; the red symbolize blood shed for liberation, the white band denotes peace, the snow of the mountains, and purity; the green cedar tree is the symbol of Lebanon and represents eternity, steadiness, happiness, and prosperity.
