Geography:The Zambezi River bisects the country flowing southeast and empties into the Mozambique Channel south of Chinde. South of the Zambezi, the terrain is predominently semiarid lowland savannah with a coastal belt characterised by mangrove swamps and sandy beaches. North of the fertile Zambezi Delta, the coastal plain is narrower, backed by a rugged interior savannah plateau abutting the tropical vegetation of the northwest highlands.
