| Geography: | Samoa comprises two main islands, Upolu and Savai'i and a number of smaller islands, 2 being inhabited. On Savai'i, the rugged, volcanic interior rises to a maximum elevation of 1858 metres at Silsili. On Upolu the highest peak is 1097 metres. Both islands exhibit similar geographical features, a mountainous central region covered by dense tropical forest cut by swift torrential rivers, encompassed by a narrow coastal plain and coral reefs. 21% of the land is arable and 47% is forested. |
